Programming and Impact
Empowering Young Adults to RISE Above the Noise
Project RISE is a movement to help young adults build the self-awareness, confidence, and emotional intelligence to thrive in today’s complex world. Our programming focuses on developing inner leadership: the ability to lead oneself with clarity, integrity, and resilience when faced with the pressures of modern life.
At the heart of our approach is the belief that lasting change begins from within. We help young adults cultivate Resilience, Integration, Support, and Empowerment—the four pillars of R.I.S.E.—so they can think freely, act with purpose, and create positive ripple effects in their lives and their communities.
The Science Behind Rise
Modern neuroscience shows that the brain continues developing well into a person’s mid-twenties. While the limbic system, the brain’s emotional and reward center, reaches maturity earlier, the prefrontal cortex, which governs logic, impulse control, and long-term decision-making, develops later.
This imbalance makes late adolescence and early adulthood (roughly ages 18–25) a uniquely vulnerable and formative stage. During this time, people are more susceptible to emotional decision-making, peer influence, and risk-taking behavior.
By focusing on emotional regulation, self-awareness, and independent thinking, RISE bridges the gap between emotion and reason, in turn helping young adults strengthen the very skills that science tells us are still developing.
Building Leaders From Within
RISE develops leaders not by teaching them to lead others, but by helping them learn to lead themselves. We define leadership as self-mastery—the courage to think independently, make thoughtful choices, and act according to one’s values even in the face of social pressure. The RISE curriculum is built around our 4 Principles.
Peer-Led Model: Cultural Change From the Inside- Out
The RISE program is built around a peer counseling model. We train and certify RISE Leaders—upperclassmen and community mentors—who serve as role models and facilitators for younger participants.
Rather than relying on older adult mentors who operate outside the peer culture, RISE leverages the influence of near-peer leaders who are already embedded within the same social environments. This approach allows culture change to occur organically within peer groups and campus communities.
RISE Leaders Receive:
• Certification and training in peer facilitation and social-emotional learning
• Volunteer service hours and potential academic or college credit
• Letters of recommendation for jobs and college admissions, especially for those continuing at RISE-affiliated institutions
• Job recommendations and pathways into careers in social work, education, and community leadership
Once trained, these RISE Leaders host workshops and group sessions on campuses and in community settings, spreading the values of self-awareness, resilience, and emotional intelligence.
